The Back Forty – A Blog About Life as an Agricultural Economist

It’s Time to Celebrate

A year ago this week I began a huge adventure, publishing my first book Back to the Futures: Crashing Dirt Bikes, Chasing Cows, and Unraveling the Mystery of Commodity Futures Markets. Five years in the making, the book is half memoir from my wild (and reckless) days growing up on an Iowa farm and the other half how to understand commodity futures markets. It was a bit of a crazy idea to put these two things together, but somehow it worked.

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Back to the Futures, I have different activities planned each day this week. You are not going to want to miss Friday’s blog post which will be titled, “So You Want to Write a Book.” In that post, I will reflect on what I have learned about the book business as a self-published author.

I am also offering several awesome promotions for Back to the Futures this week:

#1. The ebook version will be available this week only for the low, low price of 99 cents! The regular price is $6.99 so this is your chance to get the ebook for a really cheap price. The ebook is available at several retailers, all of which are listed on the web page for the book: Back to the Futures – Scott Irwin (scotthirwin.com). If you prefer to go directly to Amazon, here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/Back-Futures-Crashing-Unraveling-Comm… Remember this price will only be offered this week.

#2. If you are an old-fashioned reader like me and prefer print copies, I am super excited to let you know about a new direct sales program from Ingram Spark that allows me to offer print versions of Back to the Futures at a lower price than Amazon. The paperback version at Ingram Spark is available for only $14.99 +shipping and the hardcover version is available for only $29.99 +shipping. Depending on your shipping costs, that is a savings of over twenty bucks a copy on the hardcover version compared to the current price at Amazon! I have verified myself that the hardcover version from Ingram Spark looks very nice. So if you want to own a hardcover version of Back to the Futures to proudly display on your bookshelf, but have been put off by the price at Amazon, this is your chance to buy one and save some big bucks. To order copies at these great prices from Ingram Spark you have to use special links. Here is the one for the paperback version: Buy Back to the Futures: Crashing Dirt Bikes, Chasing Cows, and Unraveling the Mystery of Commodity Futures Markets (ingramspark.com) Here is the one for the hardcover version: Buy Back to the Futures: Crashing Dirt Bikes, Chasing Cows, and Unraveling the Mystery of Commodity Futures Markets (ingramspark.com). These links are also accessible on the web page for the book: Back to the Futures – Scott Irwin (scotthirwin.com) I will offer these prices for the print versions as long as Ingram Spark allows me!

My sincere thanks to everyone who has gone along with me on this book journey. You are appreciated more than you could know.
